Welcome to Public Libraries NSW Metropolitan Association
Public Libraries NSW Metropolitan Association (PLM) represents and supports the interests of public libraries in the greater Sydney region of the state of New South Wales (NSW) in Australia.
This region extends north to Lake Macquarie, south to Wollongong, and as far west as the Blue Mountains. It has a population of 4.5 million, just over 20% of Australia’s 21.6 million population, and 65% of the 6.9 million NSW population.
The greater Sydney region's public library network provides valued educational, information access, recreational and cultural services to diverse and multicultural communities. The libraries enable access to both NSW and Australian Government programs and information.
The library services are provided in association with and support from partners and stakeholders that include 42 Local Government Councils in the greater Sydney region, the State Government of NSW, the State Library of NSW, Friends of Libraries Australia, and many library industry vendors.
For every dollar invested into NSW public libraries, over $4 of economic benefit and $3 of real economic activity are generated. NSW public libraries:
-
Have 3.5 million users who each year borrow 50 million items and make 35 million visits to the libraries
-
Have a near $300 million annual operating expenditure of which 93% is provided by Local Government
-
Provide services from 369 locations with 2,300 staff. |
